May 2009
Dear Prospective Tennis Players and Parents:
Soon our team will embark on the 2009 – 2010 season and another quest for the state championship. Coach Pierce, Coach Harris, Coach Shuman, Coach Quinn and I look forward to another exciting and productive season. I hope you personally work hard this coming summer to realize your own potential as a tennis player and contribute to the outstanding tradition of Cherry Creek tennis.
On Friday, August 14th, we will have an organizational players’ meeting at 9:00 a.m. at the Cherry Creek courts. We will not practice on August 14th, but all players must attend the meeting to receive important information and to get on the initial ladder. The following practice schedule will be observed starting Monday, August 17th: These clinics will be Mon. Through Thurs. and the second week additional clinics will be posted at the tennis center.
2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. – Freshmen
3:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. – Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors
4:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. -Top 40 from last year’s ladder and invited players
Each day every player will
have a minimum of one assigned challenge match to play as well.
We will follow this schedule for one week after which daily assigned challenges will continue until school begins. After school begins, school courts are used for Varsity, Varsity 2, and Varsity 3 practice, and varsity and non-varsity matches. Challenge matches must be played at another location.
The Athletics Office will be collecting the 4 page athletic registration forms and the $90.00 athletic fee. The forms are available on line at http://www.ccsd.k12.co.us/AthleticsActivities/. These forms may be turned in along with the fee beginning Tuesday, August 4th. If you do not have your paperwork completed and turned into athletics before the 1st day of practice you will not be able to participate. Please take care of your paperwork early to avoid long lines.

least one challenge match per day starting August 17th which will
be assigned on the computer ladder and arranged by you and your opponent. A computer code for the beginning ladder will be provided to all players on the first practice. These matches will improve your game and your ranking on the team, and they will help the coaches determine who will play in interscholastic matches. I will be assigning 2 matches daily for players in the top 40 starting on August 17th. The varsity teams will hopefully be
determined by September 1st.
Tuesday evening, August 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the CCHS courts, there is a mandatory parents’ meeting to explain our program and to give Cherry Creek High School the opportunity to welcome your parents and explain the academic and behavioral expectations for an athlete. The Creek Court Club, our parent’s booster organization, will be soliciting your parents help and also selling and taking orders for team clothing, one of the team’s fund-raising activities. We need your parent’s support and ideas. Don’t let them miss this meeting; it is very informative for all parents.
On Friday evening August 21st, we will have our annual casino night location TBA. This has always been a fun evening for players and parents.
Since we have one week of practice before school starts on the 25th we are having a second mandatory parent and player meeting for those who missed our initial meetings. This meeting will be on the evening of August 25th at the tennis courts at 7:00 pm. All players and parents with questions and concerns are invited.
Finally, please be advised that this year, like every year, serious and worthy challengers await us. Be assured that the coaches, players, and supporters of this program will work their hardest to maintain the proud tradition of this program. Each of us will put forth our best effort. Please check your summer recreation bulletin and our team website www.creektennis.com for the clinics being run by our assistant coaches throughout the summer and before the season begins.
Have a Great Summer!
